Skype is a simple software which enable you to make free calls(Audio,video and conference ) over the Internet by using VoIP protocol.It is available for all platform i.e you can use it from Ubuntu,windows or MacOS.It is very simple to use and graphical interface is also very user friendly with a lot of advanced features. The Command Line Way 1. Add the partner repository to the sources.list. sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list Uncomment the following lines: deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu maverick partner deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu maverick partner If you don’t see the above two lines, then you must add them. Now save and close the file. 2. Now, retrieve the updated package lists from the newly added repositories by issuing the following command: sudo apt-get update 3. Now install skpe sudo apt-get install skype The Graphical Way 1. Go to Applications –> Ubuntu Software Center. 2. Then select Edit –> Software Sources… 3. Select ‘O...

Skype has just been uploaded to the "partner" official Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx repository. So you can now install skype in your ubuntu 10.04 without downloading the setup files from skype . So to install Skype in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx from the partner repository, go to System > Administration > Software Sources and on the "Other software" tab, enable (check the box next to it) the " http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu lucid partner " repository. Problems using WebCam in Skype. I installed Skype on Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bits) as described here Install Skype in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Linux. After installing, i found that the color webcam display looked ''green''. I had faced the same issue when i installed and used skype in ubuntu 9.10. The fix show below helped me at that time, it does rescue me this time also. To view the webcam properly in Skype use this piece of code: $ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype To make this a permanent solution, follow the step below: $ sudo mv /usr/bin/skype /usr/bin/skype.bin $ sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/skype.bin $ sudo gedit /usr/bin/skype (use anyother editor of your choice instead of gedit if u want) add the following lines to it and save & close #!/bin/bash LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype.bin $ sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/skype

Non - Terminal Download the setup 32 -bit 64 -bit You will these packages: libqt4-dbus libqt4-network libqt4-xml . Goto Synaptic manager and install them. Now Launch the Skype install .deb file (just double click it) and follow the on screen prompts....
