HowTo Create your Own Usplash for Ubuntu

Download the tar file from here....and extract it....

You can see many image files, one c file, one Makefile and one bdf file.
To create a usplash using this...just type at terminal...

$ cd dipin-usplash2

$ make

Now you will get a dipin-usplash.so file. This is the usplash file.

Now u can create your own usplash by editing the images and call 'make'.
Edit the images as said below...

Put all the images into one image and do this...then extract the palette of the image, and then apply that palette to all individual images...
1. Windows->Dockable Dialogs->Palettes

2.click the arrow on the top-right of the palette-dock....
3.Palettes Menu->Import palette
4.Click image..and select the image...
5. now the new palette would have been generated....as show...

6.Now take individual images and do this...
Mode->Indexed

7. Colors->map->Set Colormap..

8.
9.Select the palette we generated....

10.

Hi. Seems like a great tutorial, but why you need to do all that editing with Gimp? Does the image used in the usplash needs a special format?
Yes..the problem is..all the images that you take to make the usplash need to be of same palette.....

wbar: a quick luanch bar( similar to avant and cairo dock)

wbar is a quick-launch bar (not a dock) that has an appearance similar to Avant Window Manager and Cairo Dock. It is GTK (Gnome) based but can work in all desktop environments. It does not require a compositing manager to be installed and is therefore quicker and more suitable for low-end hardware systems. It is the default in the Google gOS desktop and is available as a .deb package from Google. Download and install (from the command-line Terminal): wget http://wbar.googlecode.com/files/wbar_1.3.3_i386.deb sudo dpkg -i wbar_1.3.3_i386.deb Start wbar with custom start options (e.g. by pressing alt+F2). Here is an example: wbar -isize 48 -j 1 -p bottom -balfa 40 -bpress -nanim 3 -z 2.5 -above-desk Here is another example: wbar -above-desk -pos bottom -isize 60 -nanim 1 -bpress -jumpf 0.0 -zoomf 1.5 For a full list of command-line startup options, see: wbar --help Tip: If you want the "wave" effect just increase the -nanim value. I like the icons to just pop up so I do...
