Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.8 released: improved PPA

Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.8 is released. It doesn’t seem to have introduced any new features, but it have improved the Third Party Sources.

The number of PPA source from launchpad.net is increasing. A lot of new and updated applications have their PPA source, it’s really useful for users. Ubuntu Tweak includes a lot of popular PPA sources to let people to use PPA easily.

But there’s one problem, one source may depends on anther, and one may conflicts with another. How do we solve the problem?

So in the Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.8, it has been a major improvement.

For example, if you want to use the latest version of Midori (A lightweight browser), it depends on the WebKitGtk source. So the new Ubuntu Tweak will notify you about it like this, if you choose “Yes”, both “WebKitGtk” and “Midori” will be enabled.

It’s the easiest way to do it, isn’t it?

On the other hand, if you disable “WebKitGtk” without disabling “Midori” first, you will get a warning dialog like this.

Another warning dialog will show when you try to use a source that conficts with an already enabled source.

For example, “Skype” and “Medibuntu” both provide the Skype application. To make everything go well, You won’t be allowed to enable both of them.

Your system will be much safer and stable through Ubuntu Tweak’s new Third Party Sources.

This version includes a lot of new PPA sources, they are:
  • Liferea (Famous RSS reader;
  • GNOME Colors (A set of cool theme and icon);
  • IBus 1.2 (Input method);
  • vlc 1.0 (Famous media player);
  • Christine (A new media player);
  • Empathy (Instant Message);
  • smplayer (Another media player based on Mpalyer);
  • VirtualBox OSE (Open source editition);

Other updates are:

* Fix dependency(Add policykit-gnome);
* Put icons in different sizes to /usr/share/icons/hicolor

wbar: a quick luanch bar( similar to avant and cairo dock)

wbar is a quick-launch bar (not a dock) that has an appearance similar to Avant Window Manager and Cairo Dock. It is GTK (Gnome) based but can work in all desktop environments. It does not require a compositing manager to be installed and is therefore quicker and more suitable for low-end hardware systems. It is the default in the Google gOS desktop and is available as a .deb package from Google. Download and install (from the command-line Terminal): wget http://wbar.googlecode.com/files/wbar_1.3.3_i386.deb sudo dpkg -i wbar_1.3.3_i386.deb Start wbar with custom start options (e.g. by pressing alt+F2). Here is an example: wbar -isize 48 -j 1 -p bottom -balfa 40 -bpress -nanim 3 -z 2.5 -above-desk Here is another example: wbar -above-desk -pos bottom -isize 60 -nanim 1 -bpress -jumpf 0.0 -zoomf 1.5 For a full list of command-line startup options, see: wbar --help Tip: If you want the "wave" effect just increase the -nanim value. I like the icons to just pop up so I do...
